Trump: Our Country Does Plenty of Killing Also

"Our country does plenty of killing also." — Donald Trump, when asked if he was concerned about Russia’s alleged involvement in the assassination of journalists. Morning Joe, MSNBC, Trump: Putin is a Leader, Unlike Our President.

The Committee to Protect Journalists reports that 56 journalists have been killed in Russia since 1992. Twenty-three have been killed since Vladamir Putin came to power.

More generally, according to Freedom House, Russian "politicians and government officials frequently use the country’s politicized and corrupt court system to harass the few journalists who dare to expose abuses by the authorities. Russian law contains a broad definition of extremism that officials invoke to silence government critics, including journalists."

In an interview with George Stephanopoulos, Trump expanded on his defense of Putin.

You’re making these accusations, and I don’t see any proof,” said Trump. “And by the way, he totally denies that he kills reporters.”

Totally.
